London/Mumbai:  The UK is one of the top destinations for Indian students aspiring to study abroad. Historically, the UK has remained as a one leading higher education market for Indian students. Indian sends second largest students to the UK for higher study, after USA.

QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analysts, has on 23 November released the first edition of the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, a new ranking designed to improve the quality of analyses about the links between university practices and graduate employability. Here, SkillOutlook presents key trends visible in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings-2016/17.

The University of Cambridge has emerged as the UK’s highest-ranked university in this first edition, placing 5th globally. It is followed by two other top-20 universities: the University of Oxford, which ranks 8th, and Imperial College London, which features jointly at 20th. In total, thirty-seven universities from the United Kingdom place in this year’s ranking, which is topped by Stanford University at the global levels.

Of these 37 universities in the 300 global rankings list, seven are in the top fifty. The three aforementioned universities are joined by University College London (24th), the University of Manchester (35th), the University of Bristol (39th), and the University of Edinburgh (50th).

Hence, the top five universities in the UK with graduate employability prospects are as followed:  University of Cambridge (1), University of Oxford (2), Imperial College London (3), University College London (4), and University of Manchester (5).

Two universities from the United Kingdom achieve the full weighted score for employer reputation. The Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, with the London School of Economics and Political Science achieving a score of 99.8/100.

The report mentioned that Oxford is the nation’s leader for alumni outcomes, followed by Cambridge and LSE respectively. However, the UK’s leaders for QS’s ‘Partnerships with Employers’ metric are Imperial College London and the University of Nottingham, while Loughborough University leads the nation’s institutions for providing Employer-Student connections.

Led by Stanford University, the rankings place Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 2nd and China’s Tsinghua University 3rd place at the global levels.

Ben Sowter, Head of Research at QS, said “As the global employment market changes in unprecedented ways, students are increasingly emphasising the link between their university choice and their future career. We’re confident that the insights provided by this ranking will prove invaluable in allowing them to do so.”
