NEST 2017 for admission to Integrated MSc programme at NISER Bhubaneswar and DAE CEBS Mumbai

Bhubaneswar:  The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST), a national test for admission to the 5–year Integrated MSc programme in basic sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics – at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai, Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM–DAE CEBS), Mumbai will be held on 27 May 2017 (Saturday: Last Saturday of May).

The online submission of applications for NEST 2017 has commenced from 02 January 2017 while it closes on 06 March 2017. As per the NEST 2017 notification, there are 172 seats for 2017 batch at NISER Bhubaneswar, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/PD candidates and two seats for candidates from the state of J&K as per the government norms. Further, there are 47 seats for 2017 with reservations as per government norms, including two seats for candidates from the state of J&K and reservation for persons with disability (PwD).


Eligibility Criteria:  As per the NEST 2017 notification, candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:

 Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 1997. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.

 Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2015 or 2016. Candidates appearing in 2017 are also eligible.

At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.

 Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.

INSPIRE  Scholarship:  INSPIRE  sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India) supports scholarships of Rs 5,000 per month and an additional Rs 20,000 per year for carrying out summer projects to a limited number of merit based  candidates pursuing the 5-year integrated MSc programme at NISER and CEBS. The numbers of such scholarships were 60 for NISER and 25 for CEBS for the NEST 2016.

NISER and CEBS are autonomous institutions set up by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, in 2007.
