Mumbai:  As expected the total strength of student intake capacity has been hiked 4% under various undergraduate courses (4-years and 5-year dual degrees) in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for the academic year (2016-17). Hence, more students will be able to fulfill their dream to study in premier engineering institutes like IITs. For AY 2017-18, there are 10,998 seats available for admission under various BTech programmes. Last year the total number seats were 10,572 for the same courses in all 23 IITs.

Earlier it was expected that the intake capacity to be increased for undergraduate courses in all 23 for AY 2017-18 in the range of 5-10%. It appears that the actual hike in seat strength for the current academic session is marginally below the expectation. Here it can be mentioned that the IIT Council has already approved the plans to hike student intake to one lakh by 2020. This ambitious target aims at increasing student intake across IITs at undergraduate, post graduate and research levels from the current 72,000 to one lakh in a phased manner.

As per the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) seat matrix report, the total number seats available for IITs under BTech courses stand at 10,998. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2017 has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 97 institutes for the academic year 2017-18. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform.

As per the JoSAA schedule, the candidates registration and fill-in their choices of academic programs will begin form 15 June 2019. On 20 June 2017, the mock seat allocation-1 based on the choices filled-in by candidates will be released. Candidate registration and fill-in their choices of academic programs ends on 26 June 2017.

For AY 2017-18, the total number of seats available for admission in the all 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 Other-GFTIs stands at 36,268 . Out of these IITs have 10,998 seat capacity, NITs 17,868, IITs 3,433, and IIITs 3,979 under various BTech programmes.

JEE Advanced 2017 results will be announced today (11 June 2017). The result will be declared at https://results.jeeadv.ac.in/  today at 10:00 IST.
