New Delhi: Finally the wait is over for the students aspiring to pursue higher education in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India’s top ranked university in general category by NIRF 2016. JNU has today released the official admission notification for the academic session 2017-18. The online applications have been invited from eligible candidates for various programs such as UG, PG, MPhil/PhD and Diploma/Certificate programmes.

Key Dates: The online application process has already started from 21 March 2017. The closing of date for online application process is 05 April 2017 (Till 05:00 PM). The dates of entrance examination are as followed: 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th May, 2017.

The admissions for Academic Year 2017-18 are open in the following Schools of inter-disciplinary research and teaching besides some Special Centres of Study of the university.

(i) School of International Studies

(ii) School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies

(iii) School of Social Sciences

(iv) School of Arts and Aesthetics

(v) School of Life Sciences

(vi) School of Environmental Sciences

(vii) School of Computer and Systems Sciences

(viii) School of Physical Sciences

(ix) School of Computational and Integrative Sciences

(x) School of Biotechnology

(xi) Centre for Molecular Medicine

(xii) Centre for Sanskrit Studies

(xiii) Centre for the Study of Law and Governance

(xiv) Centre for Nano Sciences

MPhil/PhD Programes: JNU has informed that the admission to the PhD programmes will be done as per admission procedure based on UGC Gazette Notification 2016. The MPhill/PhD admission examination would be held on all India basis and question paper for the same would be as per UGC Regulations-2016 i.e. 50% Research Methodology and 50% Subject specific. The entrance examination would be of qualifying nature with 50% qualifying marks followed by viva voce.

The JNU University informed that the syllabus information for MPhil/PhD entrance examination will be uploaded on the university website shortly.

Here, SkillOutlook presents the eligibility conditions in brief for MPhil/PhD Admission for AY2017-18:

For candidates applying for MPhil programme: Candidates for admission to the MPhil programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country.

A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.

For candidates applying for PhD programme: Subject to the conditions stipulated in these Regulations, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the PhD programme: (a) Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated above; (b) Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing the MPhil Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the PhD Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

(c) A person whose MPhil dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the PhD programme of the same Institution; and (d) Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to MPhil Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, shall be eligible for admission to PhD programmes.
