IIT Roorkee in Collaboration with University of Michigan to conduct Leadership for Academician Program (LEAP) for HRD Ministry

Greater Noida, 16th November 2018: Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is organizing a world-class training on leadership for academicians programme (LEAP) at its Greater Noida Extension Centre with inauguration on 16th November 2018.

This program is a unique academic leadership development collaboration between IIT Roorkee, India and the University of Michigan, USA under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.  Senior faculty members having at least 8 years of experience at the level of professor with age below 58 years and good academic record will attend the program. Around 30 participants will attend the training program.

The Ministry of Human Resources, Govt of India has taken this initiative to build excellence in leadership in Higher Education institutions in the country, through a pool of trained professionals. The training program is of three weeks duration. The first part of the training is of two weeks from 17 November to 29 November at IIT Roorkee’s Greater Noida Extension Centre. The second part of the training is at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, USA.

The course was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof SG Dhande, former Director of IIT Kanpur and Prof Prem Vrat, former Director; IIT Roorkee was the Guest of Honour at the event.

Prof Ajit Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee in his address pointed to the partnership with Michigan Ross “We launched a comprehensive international search to identify the best business school partner. We selected the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan because of its reputation as a pioneer of real-world learning experiences in multiple locations around the globe.”

Prof Bhupendra K Gandhi, the program coordinator informed that participants are selected based on their academic qualification from different technical institutes and universities. Eminent experts in the field of education from IITs, IIMs, Universities, Industries and Govt. Departments will be delivering the lectures, panel discussion and case studies.

 This training is necessary and critical for the development of academic leadership in India and has been exclusively designed in consultation with IIT-Roorkee to ensure that participants imbibe best practices in academic governance, student engagement and innovation in teaching techniques from one of the world’s top universities.
