IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIM Ahmedabad, crowned as best educational institutes by INDIA RANKING 2017

New Delhi: IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras, and IIM Ahmedabad are crowned as the best educational institutes in their respective categories in India as per INDIA RANKING 2017 report, which was released today. This is the second edition of India’s own ranking for higher education system, popularly known as NIRF (National Institute Ranking Framework). The most surprise development of this year ranking is the inclusion of overall ranking category and top colleges in India.

The top five institutes in the overall category ranking are as followed: IISc Bangalore (1), IIT Madras (2), IIT Bombay (3), IIT Kharagpur (4) and IIT Delhi (5).  The performance of IISc Bangalore is outstanding as the premier institute stood at the number one position in both Common Ranking and University ranking categories.

The top five institutes in engineering category are as followed: IIT Madars (1), IIT Bombay (2), IIT Kharagpur (3), IIT Delhi (4), and IIT Kanpur (5).  IIT Madras has continued to top the engineering institutes in India as last year IIT Madras grabbed the top position in the same category.

The top five management institutes include: IIM Ahmedabad (1), IIM Bangalore (2), IIM Calcutta (3), Lucknow (4), IIM Kozhikode (5). In the B-School category, IIM Ahmedabad jumped to number one position by beating IIM Bangalore this year.

In the University category the top five varisities are as followed: IISc, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research Bangalore and Jadavpur University.

Releasing the India Ranking 2017 report today, Union HRD Minister Mr Prakash Javdekar said that educational institutes with higher ranking will be given more autonomy. The Minister also informed that grants and funds will be provided more for institutions faring better in rankings under NIRF 2017.

India Ranking 2017 is more comprehensive and exhaustive as a large number educational institutes have participated in the NIRF 2017. On an overall more than 3300 educational institutes have participated in the NIRF 2017 process.  In the common rankings 724 institutes have participated.  A total number of 232 universities, 542 management institutes and 316 pharmacy institutes have participated in the India’s own ranking system NIRF 2017.  India Ranking 2017 has for the first time includes ranking for overall category. Further, the NIRF 2017 includes a separate list for top colleges in India.

The top five colleges in India as per NIRF 2017 are as followed: Miranda House Delhi (1), Loyola College, Chennai (2), Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi (3), Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirapalli (4), Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, New Delhi (5).

 The top five pharma institutes in India are as followed: Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi (1), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali (2), University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chandigarh (3), Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (4) and National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad (5).
