Chandigarh: Punjab University, Chandigarh, a leading public university in India, has released MPhil & PhD admission notification for the academic year 2017-18. The university will conduct MPhil & PhD ENTRANCE TEST-2017 on 09 July 2017 (Sunday) in the following faculties of Arts; Business Management & Commerce; Design & Fine Arts; Education; Engineering; Languages; Law; and Science. The entrance test will be held in Chandigarh only.

There are a total of 241 MPhil seats are available for admission. Meanwhile, a total of 489 seats available for PhD admission in the various streams via MPhil & PhD Entrance Test 2017 of Punjab University. The last date for submission of information on the website (PU) to generate the Bank Challan is 21 June 2017. The last date for uploading of photograph, signature with rest of the information on the website.  The fee for MPhil & PhD Entrance Test is Rs. 2100/- (Rs. 1050/- for SC/ST/PwD).

Eligibility Conditions (Faculty of Arts, Education, Languages, Science, Design and Fine Arts, Law, and Engineering) – Punjab University:

Any candidate who has passed the Master’s examination in the concerned subject with a score of not less than 55% (50% for SC/ST/BC/PwD Category) marks in aggregate, or have appeared in the final year examination of Master’ss degree in the subject concerned from Panjab University, Chandigarh or from any other University (approved by the appropriate Academic Bodies of P.U.), shall also be eligible to appear for the MPhill & PhD Entrance Test. The students possessing degree of M.A. in Gandhian and Peace Studies be considered for enrolment for Ph.D. degree in the other subjects of Arts and Social Sciences provided they clear the Entrance Test in the subject in which the enrolment is sought. A candidate should have obtained Masters Degree in Public Administration or Political Science or Economics or Sociology or Psychology with at least 55% (50% for SC/ST/BC/PwD Category) marks in aggregate for MPhil and PhD in Public Administration.

For eligibility conditions in subjects, the candidates should refer the Prospectus of MPhil & PhD 2017 Entrance Test 2017.

Exemption from Entrance Test for enrolment to PhD:

Every candidate interested in admission to PhD Programme in any of the school/ department/ institute of Panjab University has to appear in PhD Entrance Test except the following:

(i) The candidates who have qualified UGC – NET/CSIR (JRF) Examination / SLET/ GATE examination.

(ii) Candidates who are Teacher Fellowship Holders/ direct awardees of fellowship by DST (INSPIRE), ICMR or any other National Agency.

In case of Science and Engineering Departments / Institutes (because of the cost of the laboratory work) it will be the decision of the Academic Committee of the Department to decide whether the candidates who have cleared SLET/ PhD entrance test without fellowship be admitted to PhD Programme or not.

Fellowship:  A few University fellowships are available for PhD research. If successful candidates wish to be considered.
