New Delhi: More than six lakh students apply for The UGC National Eligibility Test (NET), which is held twice a year. The next UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professors will be held on 08 July 2018 ( Sunday).

For the July 2018 test, the test pattern has been changed, said by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a short notification. Here, Skilloutlook highlights the key changes under revised exam scheme for the July 2018 UGC NET Exam.

Now there will be two papers: As per the notification, which is uploaded on the official website of the CBSE NET exam, the test will have two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Earlier the test has three papers. Hence, for July 2018, there will no Third Paper.

Duration of each paper changes: Paper I will have one hour (9:30 AM to 10:30 AM). Paper II will have two hours (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM).  Earlier in the previous Nov 2017 test, all the three papers have duration of five hours. Hence, the total duration of test is Three Hours in July 2018 test.

The reduction in number of test papers and duration of the test is welcome by some section students/aspirants.

Paper I Details: Paper I will have 50 questions and all are compulsory. Paper I will have 50 objective type questions (compulsory) and each carrying 2 marks each. The paper shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. The candidates need to answer this paper in 60 minutes (9:30 AM -10:30 AM). The total marks of Paper I are 100.

Paper II scheme details: The paper II will have 100 questions and all are compulsory. Paper II will have 100 objective type questions (compulsory) and each carrying 2 marks, which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. The test will be held for two hours (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Paper II will have total marks of 200.

Upper Age Limit Hiked: The upper Age limit has been extended to 30 years from the existing 28 years (the age relaxation as earlier will remain same).

The notification said that the detailed notification on the test will be available on the official website of UGC-NET from 01 February 2018.

Meanwhile, online application portal for UGC-NET July 2018 exam will open from 06 March 2018. The online application portal will close on 05 April 2018. The fee can be paid up to 06 April 2018.

The previous UGC NET was held on 05 November 2017. Now the next test will be held on 08 July 2018. Hence, it is assumed that the NET will be held twice year going forward.
