New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released yesterday (08 August 2017) full-notification for the UGC-NET November 2017 Examination. The UGC-NET for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor will be held 05 November 2017 (Sunday).  The notification has mentioned some changes in the pattern of examination and determination of qualifying process of the examination.

For UGC NET November 2017 test, there are some changes both in pattern of examination and qualifying process. Now in Paper I of Nov 2017 Test, all objective type questions will be compulsory and each question will carry 2 marks. Further, the criteria for scoring subject specific minimum marks for qualifying the exam is abolished for UGC NET November 2017 Examination. Now, candidates need to score minimum marks as specified in aggregate of all three papers.  In another new norm, the number of slots for eligibility for Assistant Professor only will be equal to the 6% of the candidates appeared in all three papers of NET.

New Examination Pattern:  The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 05th November, 2017 (SUNDAY) in three separate sessions.

The pattern is slightly changed this time for Paper I. The paper I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions and each question will carry 2 marks.

In the previous UGC-NET test, in Paper I there were 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions of 2 marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any 50 (fifty). In the event of the candidate attempted more than 50 questions, the first 50 questions attempted by the candidate were evaluated.

Hence, for No 2017 UGC NET exam, all 50 (fifty) questions are compulsory. Paper I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

All the questions of Paper – II and Paper – III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper – I, Paper – II and Paper – III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

Procedure  & Criteria for declaration of Results (Qualifying): As per earlier notified by the UGC, the qualifying criteria has been adopted. This will comprise of following steps:

Step I: The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks in aggregate of all three papers

i.e. Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper –III for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor as given below:

Category Minimum Marks (%) to be obtained
Paper I Pape II Paper III
General 40% aggregate marks in all the three papers  taken together
OBC/PWD/SC/ST 35% aggregate marks in all the three papers taken together

For General candidates, 40% aggregate marks in all the three papers taken together. For OBC (Non-creamy layer)/PwD/SC/ST,  35% aggregate marks in all the three papers taken together.

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have appeared in all three papers and cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.

Step III: The number of slots for eligibility for Assistant Professor only will be equal to the 6% of the candidates appeared in all three papers of NET. The subject-wise and category-wise distribution of slots will be calculated by using the similar formula as used for calculation slots of JRF.

Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III by using the specified formula.

In the previous UGC NET exam, candidates were required to score minimum specified marks in each papers. As per revised pattern and changes in qualifying norms, for November 2017 NET exam, candidates need to score minimum marks in aggregate of all three papers. Hence, the criteria for scoring subject specific  minimum marks for qualifying the exam is abolished for UGC NET November 2017 Examination.

The candidates are required to apply online from 11 August 2017 for the November test. The last date for applying online is 11 September, 2017 and fee can be paid up to 12 September 2017.  The CBSE has decided to use Aadhaar authentication for the applicants at the time of submission of application form for UGC NET November  2017.
