Kolkata: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata invites applications from eligible students for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme for the Autumn Semester 2017. The PhD programmes are available in any of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics and Physical Sciences. Reservations for candidates are available as per Government of India norms.
The closing date for receiving online applications is 20 May 2017. Meanwhile, application portal has opened from 06 March 2017. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must have completed their degree at the time of admission. There are two channels of admission.

Further, the Centre for Advanced Functional Materials (CAFM) of IISER Kolkata has also invited application for regular PhD programme for the Autumn semester, 2017 under the Departments of Biological (DBS), Chemical (DCS) and Physical Sciences (DPS) in the interdisciplinary research areas of (i) functional nanomaterials in photovoltaics and magnetism, (ii) organic semiconductors and supramolecular assemblies and (iii) theoretical and computational biophysics.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria for PhD programmes under CAFM under DCS/DBS/DPS: Bright and motivated candidates who have passed MSc and/or MTech examinations with minimum 55% marks in the following areas of Chemistry or Biology:
Chemistry with specializations in organic and physical chemistry; Biochemistry; Biology; Physics with an aptitude in computational materials science.
There are two different channels for admission in the PhD programme under CAFM under DCS/DBS/DPS.
Channel 1: Apart from satisfying minimal eligibility criteria, the candidates must have CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, INSPIRE fellowship or other equivalent fellowship.
Channel 2: Institute funding: In the exceptional cases, a limited number of Institute fellowship MAY BE available for the students. For this fellowship, candidates must have qualified in any prestigious national level examinations like GATE or NET-LS (apart from satisfying minimal eligibility criteria).
