New Delhi: Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has released notification for Call of Applications for Doctoral Fellowships; Post-Doctoral Fellowships,  and National Fellowships for 2017-18 from Indian social scientists. The proposals should be in the field of social science disciplines or may be interdisciplinary in nature.

The closing date for submission of applications is 08 September 2017 (Friday). ICSSR promotes research in the field of social sciences. ICSSR has delayed to notify various programmes and fellowship schemes for the year 2017-18 as it releases notification each year in May-June.   Now wait for aspirants who are in the research field on the domain of social sciences is over.

Doctoral Fellowships: Under Doctoral Fellowships, ICSSR awards to the registered Ph D scholars from UGC recognized Indian university including deemed university/college having University approved PhD programme with requisite infrastructure/institutes of national importance and ICSSR Research Institutes, to pursue and complete their doctoral research in any social science discipline.

The broad disciplines of study within the domain of social sciences are: (i) Sociology and Social Anthropology; (ii) Political Science / Public Administration; (iii) Economics; (iv) International Studies; (v) Social Geography and Population Studies; (vi) Commerce and Management; (vii) Social Psychology; (viii)Education; (ix) Social Linguistics / Socio-Cultural Studies; (x) Law / International Law; (xi) National Security & Strategic Studies; and  (xii) Other allied Social Science disciplines (Library Science, Social Work, Media Studies, Modern Social History, Health Studies, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, Diaspora Studies, Area Studies, Sanskrit-Society & Culture etc.) to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.

Post Doctoral Fellowships:  The main objective of ICSSR Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to encourage and retain young Indian social science scholars who have completed their Ph D and who wish to pursue a regular career in teaching and research. They should have a high potential and promise for conducting full time research on specific themes and issues.

The broad disciplines of study, within the domain of social sciences are: (i) Sociology and Social Anthropology; (ii) Political Science / Public Administration; (iii) Economics; (iv) International Studies; (v) Social Geography and Population Studies; (vi) Commerce and Management; (vii) Social Psychology; (viii)Education; (ix) Social Linguistics / Socio-Cultural Studies; (x) Law / International Law; (xi) National Security & Strategic Studies; and  (xii) Other allied Social Science disciplines (Library Science, Social Work, Media Studies, Modern Social History, Health Studies, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, Diaspora Studies, Area Studies, Sanskrit-Society & Culture etc.) to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.

ICSSR informed that Post-Doctoral Fellowship is a full time research work. The duration of the fellowship is strictly for two years. The value of the fellowship is Rs.28, 000 p.m. and contingency grant is Rs.20, 000/-p.a.

National Fellowships: National Fellowships fall into two broad categories: Specific; Non-Specific.

Under the specific category, theme based fellowships are offered to scholars who have made outstanding contribution to the broad area mentioned under each of the Fellowships and are expected to work on the ideas of the person in whose name the fellowship is based:

Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship for studies on Peace Building, Social Reforms, Empowerment and Environment;

Jawaharlal Nehru National Fellowship for studies on State, Democracy, Governance, Public Policy, Leadership, and Foreign Policy;

B.R. Ambedkar National Fellowship for studies on Constitutionalism and Social Justice;

J.P. Naik National Fellowship for Education and Culture;

Maulana Azad National Fellowship for studies on Religion and Society;

Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan National Fellowship for studies on Education and Philosophy;

APJ Abdul Kalam National Fellowship for studies on Science and Public Policy;

Sarojini Naidu National Fellowship for Women Studies;

K. Subramanyan National Fellowship for Security Studies;

Swami Vivekananda National Fellowship on Nationalism, Society and Religion.

Under,Non-specific category, fellowships are open in all themes in Social Sciences.
