Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, a deemed university for the study and research of space science, has invited online applications for admission to the PhD Programme starting in July 2017. The PhD Programme is available in the following areas:  Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics and Other areas.

Key Dates: The online application has already commenced from 06 April 2017. The closing date for submission of application is 30 April 2017. Interview will be held during 12-15 June 2017. The classes for PhD students will commence from 24 July 2017.

Eligibility Conditions: IIST informed that applicants should be below 35 years as on April 30, 2017. Age relaxation applicable as per Government Rules.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology

Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology must have secured first class or equivalent in the Master’s degree. They must have pursued their Master’s degree on the basis of qualified GATE score. Applicants with MS in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with outstanding academic record (or) MS by Research with outstanding academic record can be considered without GATE. Applicants with Integrated Masters degree (or Dual Degree) in Engg/Tech from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 can be considered without GATE.

Applicants with Master’s Degree in Science

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s degree. They must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET-JRF/JEST (or) GATE in the relevant disciplines.

Applicants with Master’s Degree in Humanities

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s degrees. They must have qualified /UGC NET -JRF in the relevant disciplines.

IIST informed that result awaited applicants in the final year/semester are also eligible to apply, if they have qualified for GATE/NET as required. Such applicants may be screened in for Test/Interview based on the marks obtained by them until the current year/semester. Based on their Test/Interview performance, these candidates may be provisionally selected subject to the condition that they have to produce the provisional certificate of obtaining the qualifying degree with required percentage of marks by the date stipulated in their provisional admission letter.

Candidates having fellowship for doing PhD from the funding agencies such as DST,CSIR, MeiTY, INAE, NBHM, UGC etc may also apply for PhD admission in various departments in IIST. Final decision on the eligibility of such fellowships will be taken by IIST.

Fellowship Benefits: Research scholars selected for IIST PhD programme with Post Graduate (PG) Degree in Basic Science with NET or equivalent qualification OR Graduate Degree in Professional Course with NET or equivalent qualification OR Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course will receive a Fellowship of Rs.25000/- per month. After two years of research experience, their performance will be evaluated by a review committee. Based on the review, the fellowship amount may be enhanced to Rs.28000/- per month.
