Kolkata: Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata, Department of Atomic Energy has released PhD Admission Notification for August 2018 session.  The programme starts with a pre-Ph.D. course work, popularly known as Post M.Sc. programme. PhD programmes are available in Physics (Experimental and Theoretical) and Biophysical Sciences.

Key Dates: The closing date for submission of application is 16 April 2018 for Physics and 07 May 2018 for Biophysical Sciences.

Eligibility

Physics: Masters’ degree in Physics.

Biophysical Sciences: Masters’ degree in Physics / Chemistry (with Life Science at 10+2 level) or Masters’ degrees in Life Sciences (with Chemistry and Mathematics at 10+2 level).

Students appearing in the final examinations for their Masters’ degrees during the current academic session may also apply. However, their admission will be made provisional till they successfully pass their Masters’ degrees in compliance with the cut-off requirement for SINP screening procedure (to be announced later). Master’s degree marks-sheet should be submitted by 30 November 2018.

A first screening will be done based on previous academic records of the applicants.

Candidates interested in both the experimental and theoretical physics streams are encouraged to apply separately.

A further shortlist of candidates will be prepared based on the performance in nation-wide screening test as mentioned below:

For Physics (Experimental and Theoretical):

  1. i) Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
  2. ii) GATE in Physics

iii) CSIR/UGC NET for JRF in Physics

For Biophysical Sciences:

  1. i) Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by NCBS-TIFR.
  2. ii) CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR NET for JRF

iii)   GATE in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry

No SINP entrance test will be conducted.

Number of Fellowships: The candidates with SINP Fellowship is 20. The candidates with Extramural Fellowship is 20.
