Chennai: Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR), an Institution of National importance established  by The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research Act 2011, has invited applications for PhD programmes January 2018. PhD program in Science & Engineering is available in the following doctoral degree types:  Full Time, Sponsored, and Direct PhD. Fellowship scheme is available to the candidates.

PhD program in Science are in the following areas: a) Biological Sciences, b) Chemical Sciences, c) Physical Sciences d) Mathematical & Information Sciences. PhD programmes in engineering subjects are available in the areas which include but not limited to Mechatronics, Engineering of Structures, Composites, Fabrionics, Bio-inspired Devices and Systems, Plasmonics, Applied Mathematical/ Computational Modeling, Aerospace, Disaster Mitigation against Hazards, Environmental Risk Assessment, Footwear Science and Engineering, Marine Science, Glass and Ceramic Engineering, Smart Embedded Systems etc.

Key Dates:  Commencement of Online Admission Portal is  22 September 2017. The last date for submission of Online Application is 26 October 2017. The Aptitude Test/ Interviews will be held during 27 November 2017 to 08 December 2017.

Eligibility Criteria:

PhD Program in Sciences: Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or B.S (of 4 years duration) or Master’s degree with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences leading to a Ph.D. degree. The candidate should be having a valid National level fellowship (JRF/ SRF of various funding agencies, e.g. CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST etc.), INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships.

Direct PhD Program in Sciences: Candidates having following qualifications are eligible to apply: Undergraduate degree in Science or allied subjects with atleast 8.5/85% and/or  1st Rank holder in University/Institute. The candidate should be having a valid national level fellowship (JRF/SRF of various funding agencies, e.g. CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST, etc), INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships.

PhD Program in Engineering: Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/ Pharmacy with a good academic record or with a Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM or valid CSIR-SRF or equivalent fellowship or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record and having a valid GATE scorehaving keen interestin research in various disciplines in Engineering.

Direct PhD in Engineering: Candidates having following qualifications are eligible to apply:

B.E./ B.Tech+GATE/ NET (Engg)

B.E./ B.Tech+2-year experience as PA/ CSIR SRF/ Industrial Candidates

B.E./ B.Tech or M.Sc. + National level fellowship/ Ranked first in University

Candidates whose final results are awaited, but who are otherwise eligible as per the screening criteria, can also apply. If selected, they will be provisionally admitted to the programme. Their continuation in the programme will be subject to securing required percentage/ equivalent grade(depending on the cut-off marks for screening for the specific programme) and submission of marks sheet of their final result by October 31, of the year of admission.

Selection Process: The applicants shortlisted for PhD program shall be required to appear in the Aptitude Test/Selection Interviews at the concerned CSIR Labs.
