By Rudra Narayan Sahoo, Mumbai: To promote high quality scientific education, research and training, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. For scientific education and research activities, these institutes are popular destination for higher study. These institutes offer various degree courses: BS-MS Degree (five year degree programme), Integrated PhD, and PhD (Regular).
Out of these seven IISERs, Berhampur and Tirupati only offer BS-MS degree courses. Rest five IISERs offer PhD and BS-MS programmes. IISER Mohali, IISER Kolkata and IISER Thiruvananthapuram have already notified for PhD Admission 2017-18. IISER Pune and IISER are expected to notify their PhD Admission 2017-18 very soon. All scholars admitted in IISERs are eligible scholarships/fellowships as per HRD Ministry rules.
IISER Mohali PhD programme: IISER Mohali offers both Integrated PhD and PhD (Regular) programmes. The online applications have been commenced form 01 March 2017. The closing date for both these programmes is 31 March 2017. The institute has invited applications from prospective candidates for admission to the PhD Program at IISER Mohali in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Earth & Environmental Science and Humanities & Social Sciences for the session beginning in August 2017. Candidates interested in pursuing research in interdisciplinary areas are also encouraged to apply.

For the Integrated MS-PhD Program at IISER Mohali, the research subjects are as followed: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics for the session beginning in August 2017.

IISER Thiruvananthapuram PhD programme Admission: The online application window has been opened since 01 March 2017. The closing date for submission of application is 30 April 2017. PhD programmes are offered by IISER Thiruvananthapuram on Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Physical Sciences streams.

IISER Kolkata PhD Programmes: IISER Kolkata has already invited applications from motivated students for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme for the Autumn Semester 2017. The selected candidates can do Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics and Physical Sciences. Last date of receiving online applications is 20 May 2017.

Here it can be mentioned that IISER Pune and IISER Bhopal have not officially released any official notification for PhD Admission 2017-18 till the story is updated (12 noon Dt. 17 March 2017).
All the seven IISERs will kickstart BS-MS degree (five year) programme on 22 May 2017 as application portal for admission to all IISERs for the academic year 2017 will open on this date.
