Bengaluru: The Common Admission Test (CAT), the most coveted national entrance for admission into India’s premier B-Schools including 20 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), will be held on 4 December 2016 (Sunday). CAT 2016 notification stated that two sessions will be held on the same day while the test will be conducted across 138 cities. Online registrations for the test will begin from 8 August 2016 (Monday) and end on 22 September 2016 (Thursday).

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have announced the Registration for Common Admission Test 2016 (CAT 2016). In a press release issued today (31 July 2016) by Prof. Rajendra K. Bandi, Convener, CAT 2016, IIM Bangalore, stated that candidates will be given the option to select four Test Cities in order of preference. Test Cities and Centers will be assigned to the candidates only after the last date for CAT 2016 registration and hence candidates need not rush to block slots and sites in the initial days of registration.

Candidates must pay the registration fee through online mode only, including Credit Card, Debit Card, and Net Banking.

Test Pattern: As per the notification, the duration of the examination will be 180 minutes. There will be three sections:  Section I for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension; Section II for Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning; and Section III for Quantitative Ability. Some questions in each section may not be of multiple choice type. Instead, direct answers are to be typed on the screen. The tutorials will clearly explain this. Also, this year candidates will be allowed to use of basic on-screen calculator for computation.

Score and Mark System: All questions will carry equal marks of three (3) both MCQs (Multiple-Choice Questions) and Non-MCQs. There will be a negative mark of one (1) for an incorrect answer in MCQs only. No marks are given or deducted for unattempted questions in MCQs. For non-MCQs, 3 marks are assigned for ‘correct answer’ and no marks for ‘incorrect answer or no attempt’. Hence, there is no negative mark system in Non- MCQs.

Candidates will be allotted exactly 60 minutes for answering questions in each section and they cannot switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.
