IIT Guwahati invites applications from PhD degree holders for Institute Post Doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) Programmes

Guwahati: Doctoral Degree holders (PhD) who are planning for further study to enhance their career prospects with fellowship grant can apply for Institute Post Doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) programme in Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. Under IPDF programmes for the academic year 2016-17, the following departments of IIT Guwahati have invited applications from PhD Degree holders: Bioscience and Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Design, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics, and Centre for the Environment.

Key Dates: IIT Guwahati has informed that eligible candidates should send completed applications to the Academic Affairs Section of IIT Guwahati on or before 24 February 2017 (Friday) for the first phase of selection. The candidate may send the soft copy first to meet the deadline, followed by the hard copy. As per the notification, candidates failing to send the applications within the deadline 24 February 2017 (Friday), may be considered in the next phase, if any.

 Eligibility:

PhD degree holders with first class or equivalent in preceding degree and having consistently a good academic record.

From the PhD thesis or Post-PhD work, at least two research publications in refereed journals / conference proceedings.

Not completed five years from the date of completion of PhD programme.

A PhD student who has submitted thesis but not completed the PhD programme can also apply.  However such a candidate will have to complete the PhD programme and submit provisional or original PhD degree certificate within 6 months from the date of joining as IPDF, failure to which his/her provisional appointment offer as IPDF shall be withdrawn.

Both Indian and Foreign nationals are eligible to apply for IPDF.

Age Limit: Maximum Age is 35 years.  It can be relaxed by 5 years for women, reserved category and PwD candidates.

 Duration of the fellowship: The duration of the IPDF will be initially for a period of 2(two) years, extendable for a further period of one more year based on the progress of the IPDF and the recommendation of Performance Assessment Committee (PAC).

 Role & Assignments: In addition to the research work pursued by the IPDF, the postdoctoral Fellow candidates will have to work with the concerned Department/Centre up to 8 hours per week for academic assistance in the departmental work including teaching assistantship, handling of tutorials and laboratory work.

IIT Guwahati  said that IPDFs will be eligible to serve as co-guide for BTech / B Des / MSc/MA/ MTech / MDes/ MS (R) projects along with the mentor with the approval of the concerned DUPC/DPPC/CPPC.

Financial Support & other Benefits: The IPDFs are eligible for both Fellowship support and leave facility.

Fellowship Amount:

a) For an IPDF who has submitted PhD degree certificate: Between Rs.40,000/- to Rs.50,000/- consolidated pay (depending upon the experience and qualification)

b) For an IPDF who has not submitted PhD degree certificate: Rs.35,000/- consolidated pay.

c) An annual increment of Rs.5,000/- is granted based on the satisfactory performance as per the assessment report of the PAC subject to the following conditions:

After the increment, the consolidated pay is to be less than or equal to Rs.50,000/-

In addition to the Fellowship amount, IPDF candidates are eligible for contingency grant of Rs.50,000/- Per Year ( for 1st year and 2nd year); 3rd  Year of the PDF programme [if extension is granted]     : Rs.50,000

IPDF candidates are also eligible for ordinary leave for a maximum of 30 days of ordinary leave with fellowship in a year and it can be availed on a pro-rata basis of 2.5 days per completed one month of service. They are also eligible for Academic Leave. For Maternity/Paternity Leave, married IPDF is eligible for 120 days of maternity leave or 15 days of paternity leave as applicable only once during the entire duration of IPDF position.

 Selection Procedure: As per the admission procedure for IPDF programmes, the applications received by the Academic Section will be forwarded to the respective academic Departments/ Centres to shortlist the candidates to be called for interview. The concerned academic Departments/Centres will submit recommendations on the list of candidates to be called for interview, to the Academic Section.
