Bangalore: India’s startup story is contributing both to economic prosperity and job creation in the macro economy. Domestically, these startups are complementing the Make in India and Digital India campaigns of the government of India. Out of these startup stories, some have made a giant leap in both financial and market penetration performance.  As of now, there are eleven privately held internet companies from India belong to the unicorn club, and are valued at over a billion dollars, as per Tracxn, a startup intelligence and market research platform, analysis.

A unicorn is a start-up company valued at over $1 billion. The unicorn club of India has many startup companies, which have become household names — every netizens in the country has knowledge of Flipkart and Snapdeal, which take on Amazon in the e-commerce space. Out of these eleven startups, most of these are consumer-focused companies- taxi aggregator Ola, mobile wallet and e-commerce player Paytm, online classifieds portal Quikr, restaurant discovery and food delivery platform Zomato, and ecommerce marketplace Shopclues, and the latest entrant into the unicorn club — Hike Messenger, mobile communications app expert.

Tracxn’s Blog ,only two B2B companies — Chennai-based Zoho, which provides an online business app suite for SMBs, and Bangalore-based Mu Sigma, a data science and analytics company feature in the list.

Out of this list, Flipkart, the e-ecommerce giant, is the most valued and funded startup in India as of now. InMobi enables consumers to discover new products and services by providing contextual and personalized ad experiences on mobile devices. InMobi is a mobile advertising and discovery platform backed by Soft Bank and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

The most latest entrant into the club is Hike Messenger, a cross-platform instant messaging service for smartphones that uses the internet for communication. By using Hike Messenger platform, users can send each other graphical stickers, emoticons, images, videos, audios, files, voice messages, contacts and user location.
