Many Universities all over the globe offer the course in various disciplines. The PhD aspirants should be updated with latest developments with respect the admission procedure.
In recent times, major changes have been brought in the admission process of PhD by various universities. One of the significant change is the PhD admission process as per new regulations on MPhil and PhD by the University Grants Commission. The regulations have mandated that all Universities and Institutions Deemed to be Universities now will have to admit PhD students through an Entrance Test conducted at the level of Individual University/Institution Deemed to be a University. However, the University may decide separate terms and conditions for PhD Entrance Exam for those students who qualify UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed MPhil programme.
Now the entire PhD admission has broadly two stage process: Entrance Test and Personal Interview. The Entrance Test is qualifying in nature with qualifying marks as 50%. Generally, the syllabus of the Entrance Test consists of 50% of research methodology and 50% subject specific. The short listed candidates who qualify the 50% mark in the entrance test will have to appear interview/viva-voce test where the candidates will have to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before the Department Research Committee of the concerned universities or institutes. This is the general procedure how the PhD entrance takes place in the major universities in India.
