New Delhi: NITI Aayog, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun for collaboration and promotion of energy efficiency at multiple levels. This MoU provides a framework for cooperation between NITI Aayog and UPES to collaborate for designing, developing, and conducting consultative policy dialogue and business research to promote and enable high level energy efficiency policy formulation in India.

The key areas of co-operation under the MoU are as followed: To support the mechanism for development and implementation of a broad national framework for energy efficiency at the National level, prompting the States to devise appropriate strategies for energy efficiency measures; and to provide inputs on the implications of clean coal technology in India.

The MoU also aims to look at market mechanisms and policy options to promote energy efficiency in the residential sector with a specific focus on multi-dwelling units in medium and high-rise residential buildings and collaboratively develop suitable outreach and communications materials including energy efficiency market and policy briefs, newsletters and reports showcasing the progress made by Government of India in various energy related matters.

Dr Prasoom Dwivedi, Senior Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics and International Business, College of Management & Economic Studies, UPES informed that the university is already working with NITI Aayog and both are jointly studying the impact of renewable penetration on grid integration in India and Japan and implication of clean coal technologies (CCT) energy scenarios of India and Japan.

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 as per UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. UPES is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
