Patna: Mr. Sumit Asthana, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, has been invited to attend the Google Summer of Code Mentor Summit 2016 at Sunnyvale, California, USA from October 28-30, 2016. Mr Asthana is a student of 4th year B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of IIT Patna.

He has received this invitation as a reward for his involvement in Google Summer of Code 2016, a global event extending across 103 countries. He will receive the necessary travel and other expenses stipend from Google itself. Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school.

Since its inception in 2005, the program has brought together almost 11,000 student participants and 10,000 mentors from over 113 countries worldwide. In 2016, Google Summer of Code accepted 1,206 university students from 67 countries in April and 1,032 students (85.6%) successfully completed the program. In October 2016 Google is hosting the annual mentor summit in Sunnyvale, California where mentors and organization administrations will meet and exchange ideas.
