New Delhi:  The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the list of approved autonomous colleges in India. The list of approved autonomous colleges in India says there are 575 autonomous colleges in India.  Tamil Nadu has the highest number of autonomous colleges in India with 172 such colleges under 12 universities.

There are 130 autonomous colleges under 13 universities in Andhara Pradesh, which is the second highest among all states in India. Karnataka has 65 colleges under 11 universities while Odisha has 39 autonomous colleges under six universities.

Maharashtra has 38 autonomous colleges under nine universities while Madya Pradesh has 37 such colleges operating under eight universities.

Out of these autonomous colleges 164 are government colleges and 411 are non-govt. colleges.  There are 100 universities who have autonomous colleges in India.
