Dehradun:  University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), based in Dehradun, offers teaching assistantship to eligible MTech, MPlan and MDesign students for the academic year 2017-18. Under the scheme, the eligible students from these courses can earn a monthly assistantship by doing teaching and research related work at the university campus for few hours every week.

Features of teaching assistantship:  UPES mentioned in the MTech admission notification that half time research assistantship of Rs 12,400.00 per month (half time 12 Hrs work every week on the campus  during two years of study) will be offered to the GATE qualified candidates (top 10 percentile in their respective disciplines as per GATE 2017).

The students admitted to MTech (full time) programs in the academic session 2017-18 with ranks below the top 10 percentile or those admitted through UPES admission criteria will be given quarter time teaching /research assistantship for two years @ Rs. 3000.00 per month (06 Hrs. of work every week on campus during two years of study).

“UPES provides teaching assistantship to its post-graduate students. Students who enrol for M.Tech generally take either of the two routes after completion of the program- get into academics and teaching or get into research. In either case, the experience that they get during their teaching assistantship proves beneficial and they can get tuned to the academic environment even before they get into regular jobs,” said Dr. Kamal Bansal, Dean, College of Engineering Studies, UPES.

“At UPES teaching assistantships range between Rs. 3000 per month to Rs. 12,400 per month depending on the program and eligibility criteria met by a student. We encourage all our PG students to apply for it and make the most of this opportunity,” added Dr Bansal.

The submission for online applications for admission to various MTech, MPlan and MDesign courses  is open now. For more details on the teaching assistantship and eligibility criteria for various MTech courses, candidates should refer the admission page of the official portal of UPES (http://www.upes.ac.in/) .
