Patna: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna invites applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme, starting in December 2016 in the various Departments. The different streams for admission of PhD are as follows: Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Humanities and Social Science, Material Science & Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.
Further, DeitY sponsored Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for electronics and IT is also available. The receipt of online application has already commenced from 20 Oct 2016 while the online application window will close on 10 November 2016. The last date for receipt of completed application forms (by post) is 16 November 2016.
As per the PhD admission notification, the Institute admits PhD students under the following categories: Regular and Full Time, Sponsored and Project Staff. A student in the Regular and Full Time category has to work full-time for her/his PhD degree. They can be classified as: Institute Fellows (She/he receives assistantship from the Institute) where the qualifying Degree for Financial Support is BE/ BTech/ MSc/MCA equivalent with valid GATE score above the prescribed cut off level/ NET / NBHM/ DBT-JRF qualification); JRF/SRF Fellows (She/he receives fellowship from any government recognized funding agencies, such as CSIR, UGC, DBT, NBHM, DST (INSPIRE programme), etc.)
Under Sponsored category, a student is sponsored by a recognized industrial R&D organization, academic institution (universities/colleges), government organization (defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations including PSUs and autonomous bodies) or reputed industries (as may be recognized by this Institute) for doing research in the Institute. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission in to Ph.D. Programme: In all the disciplines, the upper age limit is 28 years (B.Tech./B.E./M.Sc./MA/MCA/MBA) and 32 years (M.Tech./M.E./M.S./M.Phil.) to be calculated from the last date for receiving the application form (Printed and Signed version, 02.05.2016) and is applicable only for candidates applying in Regular and Full time category (Institute Fellows). Upper age is relaxed up to 05 years in case of candidate belonging to Schedule Castes/Schedule Tribes, Women, Physically Handicapped and OBC applicants.
