New Delhi – Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) successfully concluded its 13th Convocation Ceremony on October 26, 2024, celebrating the academic achievements of 745 graduates across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.
During the event, 516 B.Tech. graduates from disciplines such as Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Design, Computer Science and Social Sciences, Computer Science and Biosciences, and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence were awarded degrees. Additionally, 200 M.Tech. students, including one dual-degree holder in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, and Computational Biology, and 29 Ph.D. recipients from fields like Computational Biology, Computer Science and Engineering, Human-Centered Design, Mathematics, and Social Sciences and Humanities, were recognized for their accomplishments.
The ceremony was attended by Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi and Chancellor of IIIT-Delhi, who congratulated the graduates and commended their hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He also acknowledged the role of parents, mentors, educators, and supporters in helping the students reach this milestone.
Prof. Ranjan Bose, Director of IIIT-Delhi, delivered a motivating speech and presented the Director’s Report for 2023-24. Reflecting on the graduates’ unique journey, Prof. Bose said, “This batch joined during the COVID-19 lockdown and began their studies online. Despite the unprecedented challenges of remote learning and uncertainty, they demonstrated remarkable resilience, adaptability, and commitment. Their accomplishments are a testament to their determination and perseverance.”
Emphasizing the importance of the experiences gained during their time at IIIT-Delhi, Prof. Bose stated, “The experiences you’ve gained here will become an integral part of who you are and how you navigate the challenges of the future. As you enter a world that needs not just your talent but also your insight, courage, and compassion, choose the path that excites and stimulates your intellectual passion, harnesses your talents, and engages your mind in the most productive way. Each of you carries a unique spark within; use it boldly to shape the world around you and craft the future you envision.”
Presiding over the ceremony for the first time, Prof. Rajesh Srivastava, Chairman of the Board of Governors, extended his congratulations. He remarked, “Dear graduates, today marks the culmination of years of your hard work, learning, and the pursuit of excellence. You have not only excelled academically but also demonstrated innovation and the ability to overcome challenges. As you enter the professional world, the skills, knowledge, and values acquired at IIIT-Delhi will guide you in addressing the complexities of our rapidly changing world .” He also highlighted India’s growing influence on the global stage, urging graduates to contribute to the country’s dynamic growth, especially in areas like climate change and sustainability.
The Chief Guest, Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), delivered the convocation address, offering words of wisdom and encouragement. He urged the graduates to take active roles in shaping a better world and emphasized the importance of innovation and dedication to societal progress. He said, “You must have Passion: To be completely dedicated to what you do. Commitment: To lead from the front, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in all adverse conditions. Excellence: To set the highest standards of professional integrity and performance. Determination: You may fail sometimes, but never lose the spirit. Focus: Always see the big picture, and don’t get distracted by the small ones. Learnability: You need to be a student all through your life. Above all, have Humility, Honesty, and Integrity.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Somanath further motivated the graduates, saying, “Award of degrees and accomplishments is a celebration of all your stories, a recognition of the journey that each one of you has walked to be here, a celebration of the sacrifices, the accomplishments and disappointments, the friendships and the camaraderie. It is a recognition of the support of families and friends and of the many teachers you have had along the way.”
Outstanding academic performances were celebrated during the ceremony, with awards presented to students who demonstrated excellence. These included the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, Institute Silver Medals, All-Round Performance Medals, Best BTP Awards, Gold Medal for Excellence in M.Tech., Best M.Tech. Thesis Award, and Ph.D. Dissertation Awards.

- The Trinity Challenge Award, valued at EUR 6,00,000, was granted to Dr. Tavpritesh Sethi, recognizing his work in addressing global health issues and mitigating antimicrobial resistance.
- Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Research Grant: IIIT-Delhi secured a major research grant amounting to USD 1,669,449 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This project is under the leadership of Prof. Pushpendra Singh
- PURSE Grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST): With funding of over INR 6 crore, this project will be led by Prof. Sanjit K. Kaul
- TTDF Funding by TCOE India: Rs. 3.26 crore has been awarded to IIIT-Delhi by the Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) India under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF). Prof. Vivek Ashok Bohara leads this project, which focuses on advancing telecom research.
- RailTel Project: A research project funded by RailTel with an allocation of Rs. 1.25 crore has been approved. Prof. Anubha Gupta is spearheading this initiative.
