CHENNAI : IIT Madras-incubated Smart EV Charger start-up Plugzmart has become the First Start-up in India to get ARAI Certification for its Electric Vehicle Charger for Heavy vehicles with its own controller and PLC modules developed indigenously.

The entire Hardware and Software of this 240kW DC fast charger was developed in-house, reducing reliance on imported components and promoting ‘Make in India’ for the EV Sector. It can charge high-end cars and heavy vehicles in just 20 minutes.

While several start-ups have got their EV Chargers certified by ARAI, an autonomous body affiliated to the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, Plugzmart is the first Indian Start-up to get its EV Charger certified with its own controller modules and PLC module, instead of importing them. This development has the potential to major contribution towards India reducing import dependency in the EV sector.

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is the leading automotive R&D organization of the country, set up by the Automotive Industry with the Government of India.

Plugzmart’s 240kW DC fast charger is designed for high-power EV charging, catering to high-end four-wheelers, commercial fleets and highway corridors. It ensures high efficiency, reliability and adherence to Indian and international safety standards. A Smart Power Distribution system optimizes energy usage and prevents grid overload.

Highlighting the significance of this development for India’s EV Sector, Mr. Vivek Samynathan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Plugzmart, said, “The EV charging technology in India is evolving with innovations in fast charging, smart load management and indigenous charger development. The country is moving towards high-power DC fast chargers, with a focus on locally manufactured solutions to reduce dependency on imports and lower costs. Our Indigenous Controller and PLC Modules can play a key role in the country reducing its imports in the EV Sector.”

The 240kW DC fast charger features AI-driven optimisation, which will predict and prevent charger failures and ensure high uptime. The 240kW charger also supports multiple vehicles simultaneously, making it ideal for high-demand locations.

This product strengthens Plugzmart’s position as a leader in high-power charging solutions and will facilitate the expansion of market reach to fleet operators, highway corridors and commercial EV hubs.  It also enhances revenue potential for the start-up with high-speed, high-efficiency charging technology.

Plugzmart’s 240kW charger aligns with India’s National EV policy for high-speed charging infrastructure and provides collaboration opportunities with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), fleet operators, and highway charging networks. It also creates potential for international expansion in markets looking for cost-effective, reliable high-speed chargers

Plugzmart is a pioneering EV charging technology company specializing in intelligent and efficient charging solutions. With in-house development of both hardware and software, Plugzmart provides seamless, scalable, and cost-effective charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

India’s EV sector is witnessing rapid expansion, driven by government policies, sustainability goals, and the need for efficient energy management. The charging infrastructure market is projected to grow exponentially, fueled by increased EV adoption and supportive regulations. Companies like Plugzmart are crucial in bridging the gap between demand and available charging infrastructure.

The EV charging sector is part of the broader Electric Vehicle ecosystem, which is rapidly growing in India. As the country pushes towards cleaner energy and transportation solutions, the demand for efficient and accessible EV charging infrastructure is escalating. The sector is supported by both Government incentives and private investment, driving innovation and expansion at an unprecedented pace.
