Mumbai:  Indian job market remains bright as a large majority of employees expect a promotion in the next 12 months, according to Michael Page India’s Job Confidence Index for the first quarter of 2016. A significant majority (73%) of survey employees are optimistic that a career progression in the next 12 months is on the card. On the employee working conditions yardstick, India beats the Asia Pacific region as 62% of employees in India are satisfied with their working conditions compared to 54% in Asia-Pacific.

Bengaluru emerges the top with 75% respondents satisfied with their general working conditions among Indian metro cities. New skill development is the No 1 reason for looking for a job in India as 42% employees agree with this development.  Other prime reasons such as salary (40%) and better working conditions (39%) are influencing employees for looking for a job in India, the  survey report of Michael Page finds.

The study covers responses from 688 employees from mid-senior level, across organisations and sectors, in the four key metros.

In terms of job outlook and career progression in the next 12 months, employees in India are scoring more than the average Asia Pacific employee. Sebastien Hampartzoumian, Senior Managing Director, Michael Page India, said, “They seem to be pinning their hopes on their annual performance appraisal and will only look at changing roles if the new role offers better opportunities in terms of skill development or a hike in salary. The drop in overall confidence levels can be attributed to a general belt-tightening witnessed in the start-up sector, which fueled job growth in the last quarter.”
