New Delhi: There are nearly 34 million students enrolled in higher education system in India. As per All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE-2015-16), there are 799 recognized universities in India. Unfortunately, there are many educational institutes operating across India are fake and degrees from these institutes are invalid. Innocent students become victim of these unholy practices from fake institutes.
Recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have released list of institutes which are fake and they have initiated actions against these educational institutes. The UGC has mentioned 23 universities are fake as on September 2016. Meanwhile, the AICTE informed that there are 279 institutes who are operating without regulator’s approval.
As per the Fake universities list of the UGC and Fake institutes list of AICTE, Delhi appears to be the fake capital with 66 colleges offering engineering and other technical courses without the regulator’s permission. Further, out of 23 fake universities, six are in Delhi, the UGC said.
The UGC and AICTE have published the list of fake institutes on their websites. Hence, students should remain alert as the new academic session kicks in next month. Both the regulators issue public notices through news papers alerting students not to take admission in such unauthorized institutes. Both UGC and AICTE have initiated legal actions against such institutes.
Uttar Pradesh has highest number of Fake Universities with nine such universities. Delhi has six, Odisha and West Bengal each have two universities which are not approved by the UGC.
Delhi, West Bengal, Telangana and Maharashtra have the highest number of technical institutes which are not approved by the AICTE. Delhi has 66 such institutes, Telangana 35, West Bengal 23, Maharashtra 11, which are fake as per AICTE’s list of unapproved institutes.
