New Delhi, 05 November 2020:  Under early PhD admission or Direct PhD Admission process of IIT Delhi, meritorious BTech students from three National Institutes of Technology (NIT) get direct admission in IIT Delhi.

These NITs include Agartala, Trichy and Warangal. There are more than 30 such students have already got admitted to PhD Progarmmes and have already started their study in IIT Delhi.

Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi, informed that NIT Srinagar will also very soon join Early PhD Admission scheme of IIT Delhi. Rao said “There are more number of NITs are discussing with the institute for early PhD Admission scheme.”

Early PhD provides NIT students an opportunity to carry out part of their studies including project work at IIT Delhi and then they will be offered direct admission to PhD without the need to qualify GATE or any other national level examination.

Under this scheme, students from NIT Agartala, NIT Trichy & NIT Warangal NIT with a CGPA of 8.00 at the end of their 6th semester (three years) will be eligible to apply for a project in summer and complete their fourth year (7th and 8th semesters) at IIT Delhi.

The students need to submit their transcript, and other academic records and achievements and documentary evidence of any research or internship experience along with their application.

After the successful completion of their fourth year, they can be considered for an early admission to PhD programmes at IIT Delhi. The requirement of GATE is waived off since they will enter IIT Delhi with a minimum CGPA of 8.00.

It is envisaged that this scheme will also help NIT students to enhance their chances for qualifying for the PMRF fellowship for PhD at IIT Delhi.

Addressing press persons virtually today, Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi informed that IIT Delhi will celebrate 51st  Convocation of IIT Delhi on 07 November 2020. This year, the convocation will be graced by Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, as the Chief Guest (through video conferencing). Union Minister for Education Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Educaton Shri Sanjay Dhotre will be Guests of Honour.
