Bhubaneswar: Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous research institution funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), invites application for its regular Doctoral Programme starting from August, 2017. The research activities in the Institute spans theoretical and experimental research in the areas of condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, high energy physics and interdisciplinary areas such as quantum computation, biological physics, complex systems, nano-science, material science, etc.
The Institute conducts regular PhD program, where the degree is awarded by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy. During the first two years of the PhD program (which includes the period of course work), scholars are paid a fellowship of Rs 25,000/- per month. Thereafter, scholars are placed in Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) grade and are paid Rs 28,000/- per month.

Eligibility Conditions: MSc in Physics with a minimum of 55% marks (in aggregate) or equivalent CGPA cumulatively till the last year/ semester. (Candidates appearing for M.Sc. in 2017, and who satisfy any of the criteria (2) as mentioned below can apply. Their admission will be treated as provisional.)
A valid GATE score with rank upto 200
OR
CSIR NET (JRF) within the last one year (Examinations held in June and Dec 2016),
OR
DST-INSPIRE fellowship for carrying out Ph.D.
Candidates having a rank upto 300 in JEST-2017, no online application required. They may directly come for written test followed by interview on 17th May, 2017 at 9:00 AM.
IOP, Bhubaneswar informed that candidates are required to upload the supporting documents regarding GATE/ NET/ DST-INSPIRE and produce the same in original at the time of selection.
If a candidate has a rank beyond 300 in JEST-2017 but satisfies the criteria mentioned above, she/he is encouraged to apply.
Selection Procedure: Eligible candidates are required to appear for a written test at around 9 AM in the morning of 17 May, 2017 at IOP, Bhubaneswar. Those shortlisted on the basis of the performance in the written test will appear for a personal interview during 17-19 May, 2017. The final selection will be based on the performance in the test and the personal interview.
The institute informed that all the candidates appearing for the written test will be reimbursed (a maximum amount equivalent to) sleeper class round trip train fare between their place of residence and Bhubaneswar on production of train ticket. A sum of Rs 600/- will be provided to meet living expenses.
