Hyderabad: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a deemed university, stationed at TCIS Hyderabad invites applications for admissions to PhD and Integrated MSc-PhD degree programmes under the Subject Board of Physics. The specific areas of research subjects are given below: Atomic/Molecular Physics, Laser Spectroscopy, Computational Physics, Material Science, NMR Spectroscopy, Biophysical Chemistry, Molecular Biophysics, Cell Biology, Theoretical Chemistry. The students will receive a degree through the subject boards of the graduate school of TIFR.
Current research activities at TIFR TCIS are in the areas of Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Materials, Chemical Sciences, Optics and Biological Sciences. These activities are planned to expand rapidly in the near future to include other areas including biology.

PhD.: M.Sc. (Physics) / B.Tech. & B.E. (Engineering Physics) / B.E. / B.Tech/ M.Tech. or equivalent science/engineering/medical degree that requires four or more years of university training.
Integrated Msc-PhD: B.Sc/ B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Pharm or equivalent science/engineering/medical degree / M.Sc. (other than physics)/ M.Tech/ M. Pharm/ MBBS or equivalent science/ engineering/ medical Masters degree.
In addition the candidate must have qualified in any of the following examinations:
The written test of TIFR (2016 or 2017) / GATE (Minimum valid score of 480 in 2016 or 2017)/ JEST 2016 or 2017 (Minimum rank of 50 or better) / CSIR UGC NET 2015 or 2016 (JRF eligible – Rank 50 or better).
Candidates with MTech / M.E. / M.S. (Engg.) can submit their earlier scores of GATE / equivalent.
Stipend:
PhD: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs25,000/-(enhanced to Rs28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs32,000/-.
Integrated PhD: Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.16,000/-, Rs.25,000/- from second year (enhanced to Rs.28,000/- after registration) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- (enhanced to Rs.32,000/- from second year onwards).
Admission Procedure:
Selected candidates (based on their academic performance and in the qualifying tests mentioned above) will be called for a personal interview probably during May/June’17 which will be held at TCIS, Hyderabad.
