Chennai, 01 June 2020: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has released notification for VIT Research Admission July – 2020 for Admission to PhD progarmmes. VIT offers research programmes in various Schools at Vellore, Chennai Campuses and VIT-AP (Amaravati)  & VIT-Bhopal. In Vellore and Chennai and Ameravati campuses, only Internal Full Time [IFT] category will be offered. In VIT-Bhopal campus, both Internal Full Time [IFT] and External Part Time [EPT] categories are available.

Research Fellowship Benefits:All Internal Full-Time scholars admitted into PhD programme will get a fellowship of Rs.20,000/- per month.  All Internal Full-Time scholars admitted into Integrated Ph.Dprogramme will get a fellowship of Rs.12,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs.20,000/- per month for the next two years.

All Internal Full-Time scholars who have a valid GATE score percentile of 80 and above will get an additional fellowship of Rs.5,000/- per month.

Key Dates: The closing date for submission of online application is 15 July 2020. The closing date date for submission of hard copy of application at respective campuses of VIT is 15 July 2020.

Research Test Date and Venues: Date and Time of Test (CBT) : December 14th, 2019, Time: 10 am –12 noon. Venue : (VIT-Vellore/VIT-Chennai/VIT-AP(Amaravati)/VIT-Bhopal).

Minimum Qualification for Admission:

(10+2+4+2 or any equivalent for PhD in Engineering )

(10+2+3+2 or any equivalent for PhD in Non-Engineering )

(10+2+5 year Integrated M.Tech. programmes in Engg. & Integrated. M.Sc. (Biotech) in Non-Engg. )

For Ph.D. in Engineering:

  1. Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant discipline with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/ CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class or
  2. Equivalent qualifications like M.Sc. (Engineering) / M.S. [By Research.] / M.Tech [By Research].
  3. For all the Research Programmes, it is mandatory that the candidate should have studied in regular, full time and formal education in their previous degree programmes (UG and PG).
  4. M.Sc Computer Science, M.Sc(IT), MCA and M.S.(Software Engg.) degree holders are not eligible to apply for PhD. Program.

For Integrated Ph.D in Engineering / Technology:

Bachelor’s Students with outstanding academic record in the Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology with an apti-tude towards advanced scientific and technological research are eligible to apply. A minimum of 80% marks or a CGPA of 8.0 is mandatory. Candidates who are appearing for the final examination can also apply provided they meet all the requirements before admission.

For Ph. D in Sciences :

Master’s degree in the relevant discipline of Science with a first class (or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/ Institute does not award any class).

For Ph. D in Languages:

Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA

For Ph. D in Management:

Master in Business Administration or M.E./ M.Tech. with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class.

For Ph.D. in Law

Master’s Degree in law (LLM/ML) from any recognized University/Institute, in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA.

For Ph. D in Fashion Technology:

M.Tech./M.E./M.Fashion Tech/M.S.[By Research]/M.Tech[By Research] in the field of Textile/Textile Engineering/Fibre Science/Textile Chemical Processing/Fashion/Apparel/Garment with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class.

Apart from this, scholars are encouraged to apply for JRF (CSIR / UGC) / Inspire Fellowships / Rajiv Gandhi Scholar ships (minority community and backward community).

Selection Procedure:  Due to COVID 19 pandemic, No VIT entrance examination (VITREE) for July 2020 session.

 Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview conducted at the campus where the admission is sought.

Final Selection will be based on the overall merit index of the candidate which will be arrived at by taking into account the candidate’s performance in the previous university examinations at Master’s level and the performance in the written test, research output and / the performance in personal interview at VIT.
