Palaj, Gandhinagar: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) celebrated 5th International Day of Yoga today. The entire IITGN community including students, faculty, staff and their family members enthusiastically participated in various activities. The celebrations commenced with the demonstration and practice of yoga asanas followed by an interactive session on “Relevance of Yoga in Everyday Life” by yoga expert Dr. Shikha Saraogi. The participants were informed about specific benefits of the asanas and how to perform them.

Yoga expert Dr. Shikha Saraogi acquainted the participants with theoretical aspectes of yoga such as types of exercises and yoga and their benefits in day-to-day life. Describing yoga and its importance in the current fast-paced life, Dr Shikha said, “Yoga is a disciplined lifestyle for far reaching benefits. Yoga is the most effective tool to manage stress.” She also demonstrated quick pranayama and relaxation techniques to the participants which can be practiced during their regular office/ academic routine to distress the body and mind.

The event ended with an enthusiastic round of quiz on yoga to brush up people’s knowledge about yoga and pranayam.

IITGN has been organizing Yoga Day celebrations as an annual event ever since its announcement in the year 2015 with an aim to create greater awareness about the benefits of this ancient Indian science in day to day life.
