Palaj, Gandhinagar: The decennial edition of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar’s (IITGN) Annual Technical Summit, Amalthea, is going to be held on 19-20 October 2019. The theme for this year is ‘Transcending Boundaries’.

We have witnessed exponential growth in the development of technology and its applications in the past few decades, which has surpassed the human imagination. Currently, we are in the midst of a revolution that is expanding the reach of technology in every horizon while making it accessible to everyone. From making the thinnest nanomaterial to reaching Mars, from building towering skyscrapers to imaging black-holes, we are making the impossible, possible. The decennial edition of Amalthea recognises and appreciates this astounding growth in technology. The theme of Amalthea 2019, ‘Transcending Boundaries’, represents the ideology of limitless reformations and innovations surrounding us.

The two days of the summit has exciting line-up of its four main components – events and competitions, conclave, tech-expo and a symposium. This year, official Amalthea mobile app is launched where participants can get all the latest live updates. Registration for events and symposium can be done through the app. Some of the features of the newly launched app include live updates, twice a week quiz on the app, live leaderboards with instant results, event registration through QR code, map on app, among others.

Amalthea Open 2019 is the latest entry in Amalthea events this year. It is an official WCA (World Cube Association) event, which will be the largest cubing competition in Ahmedabad.  After being the first drone racing event ever held in the country in 2016, DRA (Drone Racing Amalthea) is back again. Along with them, there are many exciting events like Roboquest, Icon, Decoding, Cryptix, Drift, Electronica and so on. Roboquest is a fun competition for robo enthusiasts. Drift is radio-controlled car racing competition for F1 lovers. Icon is for all the research oriented students who present their research ideas to the judges. Amalthea comes back this year with a brand new iteration of ‘Brain Wiz’, an event specifically for students of class 8th to 12th to encourage them to look beyond the textual knowledge. It is an event aimed at testing the participants’ logical aptitude and applicative knowledge of science and maths.

The Amalthea exhibition is revamped into ‘Tech Expo’ this year and will have some of the interesting exhibits. The unique feature of this exhibition is that it provides hands-on experience to the visitors.

Bhavya Gupta, a student coordinator at Amalthea 2019 says, “This is the tenth anniversary of Amalthea. There is a ton of excitement among the students. The decennial edition would be marked by providing an enthralling experience to the masses. There are going to be exciting events, talks by renowned speakers and a new and revamped tech expo.”

First held in 2010, Amalthea started with a vision to bridge the gap between both, the industry and academia, by providing a common platform to interact, collaborate and explore the future of technology.
