New Delhi, 24th December 2018: The UK-based University of Southampton, which is among the top 100 universities in the world as per the QS World University Rankings 2019, will be hosting an Open Day on 15th January 2019 for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students from India. The event will be held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi and it will focus on a variety of subjects that fall under the University’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Art and Humanities.

A number of eminent senior academics from both the Faculties will conduct subject specific talks, taster lectures and Q&A sessions on this occasion. The visiting delegates would include Prof Sabu S. Padmadas (Associate Dean-International, Faculty of Social Sciences), Prof Martin Broad (Head of Southampton Business School), Prof Martin Dyke (Head of Southampton Education School), Dr Pathik Pathak (Faculty Director of Social Entrepreneurship & Director, Social Impact Lab), Prof Tim Bergfelder (Head of Film), Prof Paurav Shukla (Prof of Marketing), Mr Paul Bennett (Director of Enterprise & Director of Executive Education, Southampton Business School), Mr Chris Bound (Law Alumnus and Senior Partner of Collars.Crill), Ms. Song Utz (Senior Manager of Faculty International Office) and Ms. Donna Haynes (Regional Director).

At the University of Southampton Open Day in Delhi, apart from the opportunity to interact with the delegates, who are world-renowned experts in their subject areas, the participants can also have one-one-one orientation sessions with the University’s students support staff about the rich learning environment at the University, the variety of core and flexible modules one can take up, bursary and scholarships available to Indian students, student accommodation and facilities as well as opportunities for professional training and placements.

University of Southampton is a research-intensive university and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group, with over 96 percent of its research environment being world-leading and internationally excellent (REF 2014). As per REF 2014, the Faculty is in the top 5 for research power and output in the UK. 100% of the Faculty’s research at its Statistical Sciences Research Institute as well as in Maths is world-leading or internationally excellent for impact and research environment. Moreover, the Southampton Education School is ranked 2nd in the UK as per the Guardian University Guide 2019.

The University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities offers a range of programmes in areas such as Fine Art, Graphic Arts, Media and Cultural Studies, Fashion and Textile Design, Marketing, Branding, Management and Contemporary Arts and Curatorship, Archaeology, English Literature, Film Studies, History, Modern Languages and Linguistics, Music and Philosophy. The Faculty is the home of the Winchester School of Art, which is one of the UK’s leading art and design institutions. As per the Guardian University Guide 2019, the Faculty is ranked 5th in the UK for Film, 6th for Philosophy and 7th for Art.

Registration Process

To attend the event, students are required to pre-register their subject area of interest via an email at fss-int@soton.ac.uk. The registration deadline is 5th January 2019. Once the registration process has been completed, the participant will receive the registration confirmation with details of full programme and timetable. Due to limited space at the venue, only one family member or friend will be allowed per prospective student for the event.
