United Kingdom: One-fifth of the world’s population suffers from one or the other allergy, with their condition worsening each day. The Faculty of Medicine at the UK-based University of Southampton, which is among the top 100 universities in the world as per the QS World University Rankings 2019, offers a specialized MSc in Allergy programme to meet the global challenge of the rise in the number of people suffering from allergic diseases. Southampton is the only university in the UK to offer this programme on a full-time basis. The University is currently inviting applications for the September 2019 intake of this programme, which can accommodate about 25 students.

The MSc Allergy programme is taught at the World Allergy Organization Centre of Excellence, one of the only two such centres in the UK. The programme is recognized by the World Allergy Organization, accredited by the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and quotable through the Medical Council of Hong Kong. Students enrolled for the programme will be based at one of the leading teaching hospitals in the UK – the University Hospital Southampton.

The programme is designed to help healthcare professionals, including GPs, hospital-based doctors, nurses, dietitians and other healthcare professionals, to gain a greater understanding of allergic diseases and to be able to translate this knowledge into their everyday practice. It will provide effective education and training in the mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and management of allergic disease. It is an integrated course comprehensively covering both paediatric and adult allergy.

Students will be accommodated on the & quot;step on, step off" programme, which allows them to start the programme and complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy, a Postgraduate Diploma or the full MSc degree in Allergy. There are opportunities to tailor the course to allow the student to plan his/her specific programme route at the start of the course to best meet one’s career aspirations.

Programme Duration: 1 year full time (Can be extended to 2-5 years on part time basis)

Eligibility Criteria: Second-class honors degree or relevant post-qualifying professional experience and a

minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0; undergraduate medical students who are willing to intercalate during their medical studies and have successfully completed at least three years of their degree and achieved 60% or above in all of their Year 3 assessments are also eligible to apply.

Course Commencement: September 2019

Course fee: £18,104 for one-year full time MSc programme

Scholarships: Postgraduate Merit Scholarships worth £3,000

Application deadline: Although applications deadline is 30 th June 2019, with 25 seats available for the

programme, early applications by 15 th March 2019 are advisable.
