Jamshedpur: XLRI- Xavier School of Management recently hosted 5th edition of ‘Xlerate 2018’, the Annual Management Fest by its PGDM-GM batch from 23rd – 25th February, 2018. The 3-day long annual Sports, Leadership and Cultural Extravaganza concluded with great fanfare at XLRI Campus, Jamshedpur.
The first day of the fest witnessed interesting events like – “What’s in the box”- a marketing event where students conceptualized a product/service using a set of ingredients and created an advertisement for the same. This was followed by “The Outpost”- A debate competition where the teams put forth their views for and against various interesting topics like “Have print advertisements lost their relevance in the digital age”. A Leadership talk by Mr. Prakash Singh, Chief Capability development officer, Tata Steel was held. Mr. Singh talked about the importance of purpose in leadership systems and also shared various anecdotes to stress upon the importance of purpose and goal in the organization. In the sports category, XLRI PGDM-GM students played cricket against Kerala Samajan.
The 1st day of the fest culminated with a Magical musical evening by “Bandish Fusion”, featuring maestros like Pandit Subhen Chatterjee and Amyt Datta and a Qawwali night by the renowned Warsi Brothers who enthralled the audience with their amazing performance.
Day 2 of Xlerate started with various sports events. In cricket, XLRI PGDM-GM played against Kerala Samajan. In Badminton XLRI played against National Institute of Securities Market.
The XLRI-ASCP chapter was inaugurated by Mr. Amitava Bakshi, Chief Procurement Officer Tata Steel, which was followed by a workshop on Supply Chain Management also featuring Mr. Jagjit Singh, Chief of Customer Services & Logistics Division , Mr. Anshuman Neil Basu, Executive Director, SCM Programs & Prof. TAS Vijayaraghavan, Coordinator Centre for Logistics & SCM, XLRI. Mr. Amitava Bakshi enlightened the audience about the future of supply chain and how digitization is changing the traditional supply chain. Mr. Basu had the opinion of digital disruption is a must and ASCP will pioneer in bringing in those transformations in supply chain domain across industry. Mr. Jagjit Singh shared how GST has been successfully implemented across supply chain function of Tata Steel and how the organization has got benefit out of it. At the end Prof. Vijayaraghavan shared the agenda to take the chapter forward. There were audiences from all the programs and from industries.
Students organized designer corner where 30 odd participants from various colleges showcased their creativity by designing dresses using reusable materials. Students from IIFT Ranchi, OIIFT Jamshedpur and XLRI designed dresses on themes like- seasons, elements of earth etc. and walked the ramp. In the evening XLRI’s own Band “The Bodhi Tree” performed for the audience.
The most significant event of the Day 2 was Leadership Talk Session by Ace director- Imtiaz Ali. Imtiaz Ali interacted with the students and answered their questions on various subjects like the film industry, creativity, one’s career choices and awed everyone with his intellect, creativity and humility. The day ended with a performance by “Kankana Live” from Kolkata.
The third day of XLerate 2018 kicked off with a Startup Sunday event conducted in association with Headstart Jharkhand. As part of Startup Sunday, 30 aspiring entrepreneurs of tomorrow interacted with the founders of 3 exciting startups in an informal workshop session. This was followed by a “Pitch Fest” session where teams of entrepreneurs presented their next big business ideas. Steven Pierre Fernandes and Vinay Mall of the GM program at XLRI grabbed the attention of the panel and was awarded the award for the best pitch.
A General Quiz was conducted with around 50 students participating in the preliminary round and the top 8 teams made it to the final. Questions were asked from topics on sports, business, politics, movies and others. Students from NIT Jamshedpur as well as corporate teams from Tata Steel and Ashok Leyland took part in the event as well and gave a tough fight to the teams from XLRI.
The 3rd Day witnessed Final rounds of various sports events including- Futsal, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton etc.
The Final Day’s event ended with a spectacular performance by “Banned Frequency”- Upcoming rock band from Kolkata which has played across various colleges in India.
XLerate 2018 witnessed participation from different institutes like- IIM Indore, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, NIT Jamshedpur, RajendraVidyalaya, National Institute of securities market, Orissa Institute of Interior and Fashion Technology, Xavier Institute of social service Ranchi, Institute of Public Enterprise Hyderabad, SP Jain Mumbai, IIFT Ranchi. Along with colleges, corporates like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Xoriant Corporations also participated in events like Rangmanch, Futsal and Quiz.
