Mumbai : At Witty International School, Borivali, World Environment Day was more than just a celebration—it was a call to action. Through the Net Zero Campus Challenge, over 700 students from Grades 5 to 9 participated in meaningful sustainability initiatives that inspired environmental awareness, responsible choices, and a stronger commitment to protecting the planet.

The challenge transformed the campus into a hub of sustainable action, with each grade leading a specific environmental initiative. Grade 5 observed a “No Plastic Day”, promoting the use of reusable eco-friendly alternatives, while Grades 6 and 7 drove a “Zero Waste Initiative” through waste segregation and composting practices. Grade 8 participated in a “One-Hour No Electricity Challenge”, conducting lessons outdoors to encourage mindful energy conservation. Grade 9 undertook a “Campus Sustainability Audit”, assessing energy, water, waste, and plastic usage while recommending practical improvements. Together, these initiatives enabled students to experience sustainability in action, fostering environmental awareness, responsibility, and positive everyday habits.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Seema Nair, Principal, Witty International School, Borivali, said, “At Witty, we believe that environmental responsibility is best understood when students actively engage with it. The Net Zero Campus Challenge was designed to help students experience sustainability through action and understand the impact of their everyday choices. On World Environment Day, it was inspiring to see our students embrace these initiatives with enthusiasm and commitment. By nurturing awareness at a young age, we hope to empower students to become responsible citizens who contribute positively to the environment and society.”

Sharing their experience, a student participant said, “The challenge helped us realise that sustainability is not only about large environmental projects but also about small habits we can practice every day. Whether it was avoiding plastic, reducing waste, or conserving electricity, every activity showed us that our actions matter and that everyone can contribute towards protecting the environment.”

As an institution committed to holistic education, Witty International School continues to provide learning experiences that inspire curiosity, responsibility, and purposeful action. By encouraging students to connect classroom learning with real-world issues, the school nurtures informed, compassionate, and future-ready citizens. Through such initiatives, Witty reinforces its commitment to developing young learners who are equipped to lead with awareness, empathy, and a sense of shared responsibility for the future.
