Tirupati: The Andhra Pradesh Police (NTR District) has launched a QR code–based real-time traveller protection system designed to improve passenger safety in public and rental transport vehicles. The technology enables instant access to verified vehicle and driver details while simultaneously sharing live trip location data with police authorities to ensure faster emergency response.

The system has been developed by G. Srinivas Reddy, a fourth-year engineering student at Mohan Babu University (MBU), under his startup SAS Electronics LLP, with guidance from Traffic DCP Ms. Shaik Shareena Begum. The initiative was inaugurated by Sri S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, IPS.

Under the initiative, a QR code sticker is installed behind the driver’s seat in registered vehicles. When scanned by a passenger using a smartphone, the system displays authenticated vehicle registration details, driver credentials, and trip information. At the same time, the passenger’s live location is securely shared with the police control room and nearby patrol units for the duration of the journey.

In case of an emergency, unsafe driving, or suspicious activity, police teams can immediately track the vehicle’s location and dispatch the nearest patrol unit, significantly reducing response time. The system is being implemented across autorickshaws and rental vehicles, including those operating on aggregator platforms such as Uber, Ola, and Rapido.

With a strong focus on the safety of women and children, the platform also includes a passenger rating and feedback mechanism. Repeated complaints or consistently low ratings trigger alerts and possible disciplinary action, while drivers maintaining strong safety records may receive operational incentives.

Speaking at the launch, Traffic DCP Ms. Shaik Shareena Begum said, “Reducing road accidents and ensuring smooth traffic movement remain our top priorities. Many fatalities occur due to minor negligence, and preventive measures can significantly reduce such incidents. The introduction of real-time location tracking through this app will enhance police response time and strengthen traveller safety.”

Vinay Maheshwari, Executive Director and Trustee, Mohan Babu University stated, “It is encouraging to see our students develop technologically advanced, real-world solutions that are being implemented at a district level. This reflects our commitment to applied learning and problem-solving, empowering students to create meaningful impact through innovation.”

In addition to this initiative, G. Srinivas Reddy is developing another application for the Motor Transport Office (MTO) to support vehicle data management and controlled access for departmental officials. The project is currently in the production stage.
