In commemoration of Rabha Diwas, the Dean of Studies, Prof Bandana Dutta, Assam down town University launched a special audio CD to honor the remarkable Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The CD, titled ‘Bindu Bindu,’ was unveiled at a solemn ceremony held at the Guwahati Press Club, organized by the university’s Performing Arts Department.
The launch of ‘Bindu Bindu’ marks a significant moment as it pays tribute to the extraordinary talent and artistic contributions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The compilation features eight melodious songs composed by renowned artists such as Jiten Deb, Ratan Hazarika, Bhupen Nath, Lakshhira Das, and Shashindra Kumar Adhikari. The heartfelt lyrics were penned by Parag Kumar Bhattacharya, Idris Ali, Hiren Bhatt, and Pradeep Barua. Adding to the allure of the CD, Professor Bandana Dutta, a veteran in Borgeet and Modern Songs of Akashvani Guwahati, lent her captivating voice to these mesmerizing melodies.
The primary objective of ‘Bindu Bindu’ is to preserve and popularize cherished Assamese modern songs for generations to come. In order to achieve this, Professor Bandana Dutta expressed her intention to make these captivating melodies readily accessible on platforms such as YouTube. Additionally, digital copies of the CD will be made available free of charge by the University Library.
The launch ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished guests, including the talented satriya artists Dipiyot and Deepankar, recipients of the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Award. These gifted artists were felicitated by Professor Bandana Dutta, who acknowledged their exceptional achievements in the performing arts. The honored artists expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the organizers and shared their enthusiasm for future creative endeavors. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries from Assam down town University, Dr N N Dutta, Chancellor, AdtU, Prof. N.C Talukdar, Vice Chancellor, Prof Pranvir Singh Pro Vice Chancellor.
The event also witnessed soul-stirring renditions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s songs by Nibedita Baishya and Anurag of the programme of Performing Arts. Additionally, Pankhi Kashyap delivered poignant recitations of poems penned by esteemed Assamese poets, resonating with the emotions that arose in the wake of Kalaguru’s demise. Dr. Ruby Goswami skillfully moderated the program, ensuring its smooth progression.
Utpal Datta, the Dean of the Department of Performing Arts, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all participants and attendees for their valuable contributions during the vote of thanks. Together, the gathering honored the great Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, ensuring his legacy lives on through the power of art and remembrance.
