A Memorandum of Understanding between Assam down town University and North Eastern Tea Association was signed on 5th February, 2021 at Assam down town University campus for research and academic collaborations. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr. N.C Talukdar, Vice Chancellor for Assam down town University and Mr. Sunil Jallan, Chairman for North Eastern Tea Association. Through this MoU both the institutions agreed to undertake Research & Project works in Tea Research and emerging areas with local relevance by the students/scholars and faculty members of the College/University and organize Tea related National and International seminars, workshops, conference, symposiums and competitions from time to time. The tenure of the MoU will be for three years. Shri Sunil Jallan, Chairman, Shri Kamal Jalan, Vice Chairman, Shri Bidyananda Barkakoty, Adviser, Shri Nepul Saikia, Past Chairman, Shri Ajay Dhandharia, Executive Committee Member, Smt Manisha Sharma, Secretary, Smt Rakhi Saikia, Member and Shri Harsh Sutodiya, Member attended the MoU signing ceremony from North Eastern Tea Association.
The signing ceremony was started with a warm welcome speech by Dr. N.C Talukdar, Vice Chancellor who gave a brief appraisal of the University and the currently ongoing research activities, future programs and the scope of collaboration in research, innovation and outreach with NETA. He especially mentioned about the growth in the area of Pharmaceutical Science and life sciences in the North East Region. Mr. Sunil Jallan, Chairman, North Eastern Tea Association gave a brief presentation about the Association which was formed in 1981, with the objective of working for the all-round development and interest of the tea industry. Assessing both economic and techno viability along with MRL, he urged the young researchers of both the institutions to think creatively and to come up with a big and radical, innovative ideas which can be submitted in form of a project to extramural funding agencies.
Mr. Bidyananda Barkakoty, Adviser, North Eastern Tea Association expressed extreme happiness for building a new relationship between Adtu & NETA. He also spoke about various measures to be taken in promoting research, innovation and technology. He applauded Dr. N.N Dutta, Chancellor, Assam down town University for creating a positive environment for students, faculty and staff and building an excellent State of the Art infrastructure which educates students and prepare them to succeed in their careers and in life. He also spoke about developing a machine to detect pesticides in green leaves in collaboration with Assam down town University. Mr. Arnab Sarkar, Research Associate, AdtU presented about development of a low cost IoT based system for estimation and monitoring of pesticides content in fresh leaves.
The MoU signing function ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sunandan Baruah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology & Dean Research Assam down town University. to all the distinguished guests and members for their participation at the meeting.
