Jaipur: Archana Surana, Founder and Director of ARCH College of Design and Business, delivered a keynote address at the International Conference on Fashion and Sustainability hosted by Lusófona University, Portugal. Her keynote titled “Responsible Fashion: Swipe Right,” emphasized the global significance of Indian handloom and circular fashion while shedding light on sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

As Vice President of the Cumulus Executive Board, Archana Surana discussed the integration of traditional handloom, circular fashion, and cutting-edge technology in the fashion sector. She highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship as sustainable solutions for the global fashion industry. She stated, “The global fashion industry, which contributes approximately 10% of the total carbon emissions worldwide, must shift toward sustainable practices. Integrating India’s traditional crafts and handloom with modern technology can not only offer environmentally friendly solutions but also economically empower local artisans.

During her address, she emphasized the concept of circular fashion, which revolves around the reuse and recycling of old garments. She pointed out that by 2030, circular economy practices in the fashion industry are expected to contribute $5.6 billion. Speaking about the role of technology, she added, “From AI-driven designs to smart fabrics, technology can revolutionize production processes, reduce waste, and promote the use of sustainable materials.”

ARCH College of Design and Business, a prominent design institute, has long been committed to sustainability and environmental betterment. The institute actively employs sustainable practices such as solar energy conservation and water harvesting systems. It focuses on fostering creative design solutions, achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), and integrating technology into its educational framework.

The three-day conference witnessed participation from global experts in fashion, sustainability, and technology. Archana Surana insights were highly appreciated by the attendees as she effectively showcased the potential and impact of the Indian fashion industry on the global stage.
