Guwahati: “I dedicate every song to the listener; through every song, I worship the listener, and the listener is my God,” Pulak Banerjee said in response to a question from a journalist and researcher of Assamese songs Manjit Rajkonwar. In response to another question, Mridula Das said that she had spent her life through songs only as an art form with no desire for achievement. These two artists were the subject of a conversation today by the Department of Performing Arts, Assam Down Town University. Manjit Rajkonwar moderated the event. The meeting began with a felicitation ceremony on behalf of the University.
The program ‘Antarang Abeli’ is planned in line with the ideals of the new education policy to promote academic teaching and cultural thoughts of the students. The event was launched today. This program will introduce the students to the heritage and encourage them to think forward
In the inaugural event Mridula Das and Pulak Benarjee, shared their music and life experiences with the audience and performed several songs together. After a hiatus of nearly half a decade, the two artists performed in duet today, Sharat Rag and Devjit Teron accompanied the artsts with instruments. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Dean of the Department of Performing Arts, Utpal Datta. The University will hold monthly this event and will also be open to interested people outside the University.
