LUCKNOW : Indian Institute of Management Lucknow celebrated the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the IIML community, including students, faculty, staff, and officials. It aimed to promote physical and mental health, raise awareness about the benefits of yoga, foster cultural understanding, build community spirit, manage stress, and enhance global awareness and personal development.

Addressing the participants during the event, Prof. Archana Shukla, Director, IIM Lucknow, highlighted, “Originating in India, yoga has captured global attention and devotion. Today, people worldwide practice yoga, acknowledging its profound benefits. Beyond mere exercise, yoga is a holistic lifestyle that harmonizes the mind, body, and intellect, promoting overall well-being and inner peace.”

This year’s theme for the International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the role of yoga in fostering individual well-being and societal harmony.

The institute organized a Yoga Competition on 15th June 2024 under the theme of “Yoga for Women Empowerment” to highlight the importance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being. The event saw enthusiastic participation across four categories:

  • Children under 18 years
  • Women aged 18-50 years
  • Women over 50 years
  • Men over 18 years

Asanas including Setu Bandh, Gomukha, Vir Bhadra, Hanuman, Ushtra, Uttana Pada, Sarvanga, Ashvatha, and Santulana were featured in the competitions. Participants were required to hold each asana for a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 3 minutes.

The competition underscored the significance of yoga in enhancing personal wellness and fostering community harmony. Outstanding performances by participants were acknowledged with prizes and participation certificates during the event. Prof. Archana Shukla awarded prizes to the top three winners in each category.

Additionally, the institute organized daily Yoga Practice Sessions on campus from 15th May to 20th June 2024. The International Day of Yoga activities at IIML aligned with the holistic development goals of the Institute and contributed to creating a healthier and more harmonious learning environment. The integration of physical and mental wellness practices enriched the campus culture, promoting overall well-being.
