New Delhi : International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has officially released the IIRF India Rankings 2026, announcing the country’s top-performing institutions across major higher education categories including Universities, Engineering, and Business Schools.
The latest edition of the rankings highlights the best institutions in India under six major categories — Central Universities, Private Universities, Government Engineering Colleges, Private Engineering Colleges, Government Business Schools, and Private Business Schools. The rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation of Academic Reputation, Graduate Outcome & Employability, Research Outcome: (Volume, Income & Reputation), Demand Ratio & Student Profile, Employer Reputation & International Outlook, Wellbeing and Institutional Development, Impact and Value Addition, Peer Perception & Alumni Feedback and Public Perception & Data Verification.
Among the biggest highlights of the rankings, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi secured the No.1 position in the “Central University” category, while Ashoka University, Sonepat emerged as the leading institution in the New Age Private Universities (Overall).
In the category of Deemed Universities Govt. (Overall), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru continues to uphold its unmatched reputation as the country’s premier research institution, securing the top position. It is followed by Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, renowned for its pioneering contributions to agricultural science, and Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, which continues to excel in advanced scientific research.
In Deemed Universities Pvt. (Overall), BITS – Birla Institute of Technology & Science (Institution of Eminence), Pilani has emerged as the leading institution, securing the top rank. It is followed by SRM Institute of Sciences and Technology, Chennai in second place.
In engineering education, IIT Bombay retained its leadership position among Government Engineering Institutions, whereas BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru topped the list of Best Private Engineering Colleges in India.
For management education, IIM Ahmedabad secured the No.1 position in the Government B-School category, while SPJIMR – S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai emerged as the leading Private Business School in the country.
The rankings reflect the continued rise of institutions that have demonstrated excellence in academics, innovation, research, industry engagement, entrepreneurship development, and student success.
