Bhubaneswar : The Central Library of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar organized a five-day training programme on “Library Automation Using Koha and Library Website Development Using WordPress” under the Open-Source Library Management Systems (OSLMS) initiative for Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals. The programme aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in using open-source technologies for library automation and website development.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Akshay Kumar Rath, who highlighted the transformation of libraries from traditional book repositories into digitally enabled knowledge centres. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahu, Chairperson In-Charge of the Central Library, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of LIS professionals from different parts of the country.

Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo, Deputy Librarian and Coordinator of OSLMS-2026, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of the programme. He emphasized that the training was designed to provide practical exposure to open-source software solutions and strengthen the technical capabilities of LIS professionals in managing modern library services.

The programme featured intensive hands-on sessions on Koha, WordPress, and other digital library tools, enabling participants to gain practical skills in library automation, resource management, and digital service delivery.

Addressing the valedictory session as Chief Guest, Prof. Subhransu Ranjan Samantaray, Dean (Postgraduate & Research Programs), IIT Bhubaneswar, emphasized that effective knowledge dissemination is central to academic progress. He highlighted the growing importance of digital library systems in enhancing access to knowledge and urged participants to drive innovation in library services through the skills gained during the programme.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Satya Ranjan Sahu, Sr. Principal Scientist and Head of Knowledge Resource Centre, CSIR-Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, highlighted the evolution of Koha and the transformative role of library automation in enhancing efficiency and supporting advanced services such as digitization and knowledge management. He also stressed the need for continuous learning and skill development among library professionals in the digital era. Dr. Sambhunath Sahoo, Assistant Librarian proposed a vote of thanks.

Dr. Sambhunath Sahoo, Assistant Librarian and Mr. Praveen Kumar R, Web Developer, conducted different sessions as resource persons.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants. The training provided a valuable platform for LIS professionals to enhance their technical competencies, exchange ideas, and explore innovative approaches to modern library management through open-source technologies.
