CHENNAI : Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)-incubated Deep Tech Start-up TuTr Hyperloop is collaborating with the Institute on developing Intellectual property (IP) in hyperloop technology. The start-up has also partnered with Tata Steel to jointly work on the development and deployment of Hyperloop technology at scale.

The start-up is presently finalizing an MoU with a major Indian Engineering, Procurement and Construction Services company to work together for creating and developing the Infrastructure and Systems for Hyperloop technology. Towards these, TuTr Hyperloop has entered into an IP Agreement recently with IIT Madras.

TuTr Hyperloop is a deep-tech startup operating from National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD), IIT Madras, in 2022 to carry forward the work done by CFI Team Avishkar and focus on commercializing hyperloop technologies.

Elaborating on this collaboration, Prof. Satyanarayanan Chakravarthy, the Coordinator of NCCRD, IIT Madras, “The mission for TuTr is to deliver customers with fast and reliable ‘on-demand’ transportation that is both affordable and greener in comparison with other modes of transport. TuTr seeks to leverage its partnership with IIT Madras and its co-location with India’s largest deep tech ecosystem to catalyze the development of cost-effective Hyperloop technologies.”

Further, Prof. Satyanarayanan Chakravarthy, who is also a faculty in the Department of Aerospace Engineering Department, IIT Madras, added, “The initial focus will be on cargo movement to enhance the productivity of various stakeholders by solving their pain points. This will be a first step towards the deployment of high-speed mobility corridors for passenger transportation across India and globally.”

EUROPEAN – INDIAN HYPERLOOP COLLABORATION

Further, TuTr Hyperloop has recently entered into a strategic partnership with Hardt Hyperloop, a leading European hyperloop technology company, to achieve interoperable hyperloop technology between Europe and India.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the visit of the Dutch Trade Mission to India in the presence of Mr. Mark Harbers, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, and Shri. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Union Minister of Jal Shakti. This collaboration aims to foster joint efforts in the development, demonstration, de-risking, and deployment of hyperloop technology.

Speaking about this collaboration, Mr. Mark Harbers, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, said, “The collaboration between Hardt and TuTr is a positive development. The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has been an early supporter of hyperloop technology as an international public-private development. Witnessing the growth of the hyperloop ecosystem is a testament to the power of collaboration required to realize sustainable and ground breaking transportation solutions like hyperloop.”

As part of the MoU, TuTr and Hardt will engage in discussions to converge on hyperloop technology. The goal is to develop a roadmap that would result in an operational demonstration route before 2030. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the development of hyperloop technology and bring it closer to commercialization, transforming the future of transportation.

Dr. Aravind Bharadwaj, Co-Founder and CTO, TuTr Hyperloop, said, “TuTr Hyperloop has embarked on an Atmanirbhar initiative in the IIT Madras Ecosystem to develop a cost-effective sustainable high-speed mobility technology solution for India. We are excited to partner with Hardt on this European Indian Collaboration to create common standards for an interoperable hyperloop system which will ensure that our solution will not only benefit India but can also be deployed across the world.”

Mr. Mars Geuze, Co-Founder and CCO, Hardt Hyperloop, said, “We are excited to embark on this European-Indian collaboration between hyperloop companies, paving the way for seamless transportation across borders. By emphasizing interoperable hyperloop systems, we aim to reduce barriers to entry and foster a dynamic, innovative industry. Our partnership with TuTr will help expand the adoption of hyperloop technology globally, making high-speed, sustainable transportation more accessible to people around the world.”

Hardt is a European hyperloop technology company that develops and supplies hyperloop technologies. With its test facilities in the Netherlands, Hardt has demonstrated and proven core hyperloop technologies. The company has received a commitment from the European Commission for investment and is working with European regulators to provide a pathway for the commercialization of hyperloop technology in Europe.
