Food is an integral part of any occasion in all Nations of the World, regardless of culture or religion. To celebrate the love for food, Jasudben ML School – a premier ICSE school in Khar, Mumbai and its students along with their super Dads engaged in a fun virtual hassle-free cooking competition to mimic the flame- free cooking sessions held at school in the spirit of enjoying World Food Day. The school pre – celebrated the day over the weekend to have maximum participation from families since weekdays are tied up with working from home.
Each team comprising of a father and child duo was given 25 minutes to brainstorm and come up with a unique healthy dish. Along with that, every team had to explain in a creative way the importance and nutritive value of their respective dish to the judges. The participants made some mouthwatering and healthy dishes like Russian Salad, Lettuce Corn Salad, Avocado Quinoa Salad, Tropical Salad, Protein Powerhouse Salad, and Green Salad tossed with Vinaigrette dressing to name a few.
Mrs. Damayanti Bhattacharya, Principal of Jasudben ML School said “The motive to celebrate a Food day event was to make students understand the importance and benefits of healthy eating habits. This year has been hard for everyone, hence the school decided to give a family fun time together through this contest. This fascinating idea struck us, teachers, when it was observed that in this lockdown students have learned a lot of new things in the kitchen: be it cooking hacks, baking or making chocolates, etc. These are tiny steps towards understanding the sustainability of food and a great way to increase children’s vegetable intake. I believe that our actions today will sow the seeds for tomorrow”
“It is important to remember that our kids aren’t born with a craving for french fries and pizza and an aversion to broccoli and carrots. This conditioning happens over time as kids are exposed to more and more unhealthy food choices. Our school is coming up with such innovative ways to inculcate healthy habits in our child’s lifestyle is actually the need of the hour and our parents totally support them and thank them for being thoughtful”, added a 6th-grade student’s parent.
