The Bangabandhu Corner at the Central Library of the university has been established in honour of the late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. He was greatly revered with the honorific title of “Bangabandhu” during his time. This specially designated corner houses historical photos and literary works that are relevant to understanding the culture and ethos of Bangladesh. Floral wreaths were placed on the bust statue of the late president at the start of the ceremony. The welcome address of the event was given by the V.C. of AdtU, Dr. N.C. Talukdar. A host of other dignitaries, the management trustees of AdtU, members of Faculty, students and staff of AdtU were present. The guests were treated to the traditional folk dance of the state on arrival, and traditional gamuchas, seleng chadors, japi and university mementos were presented to them during the ceremony. The Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Mrinmoy Basak, Dean of International Affairs of AdtU, who along with Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Guwahati was at the forefront in organising the event.
India and Bangladesh have shared a common history, and initiatives like these will help to increase regional cooperation, and collaboration on the academic front, and also foster friendly ties for peace and development between both countries. It is hoped that it will further advance the goal of sharing best practices in various fields.
