Mumbai, 15 July 2020: Amid COVID19 pandemic,  World Youth Skills Day has been observed world wide today (15 July 2020).  Here SkillOutlook shares stories of three individuals, who beat all the odds in their way to upskill themselves and achieve fantastic career transitions. These stories can be motivating for a lot of students and professionals looking to get a leg up in their careers.
Ravi Sreedhar – Ravi Sreedhar is the man who triumphed over personal struggles to become a high-flying Data Scientist. Having had a 4-year career gap, Ravi sometimes felt unsure of himself and was dealing with clinical depression. But he decided to pull himself together and build a career in data science by taking up a course with Great Learning, India’s leading platform for professional education. Dealing with mental health issues and keeping oneself upbeat and hungry to learn a new skill is not an easy task. Yet Ravi persisted and achieved the impossible. Today Ravi is a Data Scientist with NeenOpal. Ravi’s story is proof that hard work and resilience can transform one’s career and life.
Sonakshi Pattnaik  From dealing with a dead-end job and struggling with financial constraints to discovering the artist in her and raising a child, Sonakshi Pattnaik’s success story is nothing short of inspirational. After completing her B.Com, Sonakshi worked at a BPO where her schedule was extremely hectic. On most days, she would come home frustrated and tired. Not only were the financials an issue, but the chances of growth in her role were very limited. Moreover, as a mother of a 4-month old, she was having a tough time managing her job and motherhood responsibilities together. Being from a commerce background, she had no idea about technology but decided to join Great Learning and learn data analytics from the ground up. Right after the completion of her course, she got a job with Genpact as a Data Scientist and is now working towards making search engine results better. An inspiring transformation particularly for those who are from Commerce background and think they cannot build a career in technology.
Nikhil Kumar – Nikhil is a small-town boy who grew up with big dreams. From a young age, he was told that the big city life wasn’t for him. However, giving up was not in Nikhil’s nature. With time, he decided to conquer his fears and take on the big city by upskilling with Great Learning. Nikhil moved from Lucknow to Bengaluru in search of a better life for himself and his parents. He started his career working as a contract employee for a leading MNC. However, with time, he realized that the opportunities in his role were very limited. He knew that for moving ahead in his career he would have to upskill and he did just that by taking up a Business Analytics and Business Intelligence program with Great Learning. And today, he’s a proud Lead Analyst at a top MNC.
